An excellent support used by Ceramica Francesco De Maio as a base for glazing and decoration is the Handmade Terracotta, which is still preserved today in the fabulous floors of noble residences and in 18th-century churches and is called Riggiola. Handmade Terracotta is produced with a selection of different types of light-colored clays of local origin that are filtered and mixed with water. The clay mixture is then poured into frames and strictly hand-extruded to create and finish the different desired shapes (also custom-made) with a thickness ranging from 12 to 24 mm depending on the format.
